About
The Evansville Ecumenical Care Closet started as a food pantry at St. John’s Lutheran Church. As the city and the surrounding area grew, so did the demand on the pantry as well as the generosity of the people in the area. It wasn’t long before St. John’s and other churches recognized the growing need for more assistance.
In 2001, the pastors of St. John’s Lutheran Church, St. Paul Catholic Church, First Baptist Church (now Oak Grove Church), Evansville United Methodist Church, and Evansville Congregational United Church of Christ, along with several members of the community joined together to create the EECC.
In 2002, the EECC moved to our current location at 206 South Madison Street in Evansville. What began as a food pantry quickly grew to include a thrift store in order to meet the varied needs of the community. With the help and assistance of over 70 volunteers, the pantry serves 125 families each month. The thrift store is open to everyone, and has been called “the best kept secret in Rock County.”
In 2009, Cooksville Lutheran Church was made a member congregation.
